Why hello there...
Hello, and welcome to my website. Let me tell you a little about myself.
First of all, my name is Karl Deakyne (pronounced DEE-KINE) and like everybody else, I love having fun. I've done an extensive study in the subject and found that I enjoy just about anything that can be turned into a game. This includes all board games, most sports, and even watching movies. Specifically, I've gotten into playing ultimate frisbee, frisbee golf, slack-lining, judo, Rock Band, Call of Duty, Bioshock, Legend of Zelda, Super Smash Bros., Need for Speed, and watching a lot of movies. I have a long list of favorite movies, but I enjoy most anything with a well written dialog. A movie can have all the special effects and explosions in the world, but if I don't enjoy the speech, I can't watch it. All of these activities should not suggest that I don't have any time left for studying. In fact, I take my academics very seriously.
I am currently studying at Iowa State University to become an electrical engineer. Within that program of study I want to specialize in signals and systems, control systems and communications. I've just always found it fascinating how an isolated system, like a cell phone or laptop, can communicate with the entire world. I don't know exactly what I'd like to do once I get out of school, but I would like to go to grad school and get a masters degree. I would probably do this within a company's program, so I'm looking into which companies could supply this. Where I'll end up after school is still a mystery, I think I might travel a little before settling down, though, because I've always wanted to see what other countries are like.
I grew up in Newark, Delaware, a smaller east coast city with a small town atmosphere. While growing up, I was surrounded by family. In Newark I had one set of grandparents, seven uncles, five aunts, and six cousins within a short drive of my house, along with two brothers, a mother, and sometimes a father. My father was in the Navy though, so I only got to see him when he came ashore. Most of my family are very social people, so I was always surrounded with people to entertain me. When I was eleven, my immediate family moved out to Dubuque, Iowa because my father was finally stationed at a Naval Reserve base there. Why there is a Naval Reserve base in Dubuque is beyond me, but it was nice to have a complete family again. We still get homesick every so often, and try to make the seventeen hour drive back to Delaware every summer.
As far as this site goes, I'm only just beginning, so there may not be a large amount of content yet. I'll try to load images soon to spruce it up, and I'll see where to go from there.
